Conger, Charles
Charles Conger, of St. Albans, brother of Captain George Conger, 1st Vermont Cavalry, moved to Nashville, Tenn. prior to the war and married a southern girl. When the war broke out he joined the 1st Tennessee Inf. He was captured in 1862 about the time Capt. Conger left the service due to medical reasons. Warren, another brother tried to visit Charles, was stopped by the family and Charles was all but written off. Charles missed St. Albans and his family and was laid to rest in 1865 in Nashville dying of his exposure to prison life.
