Current Civil War-related events, related to Vermont and nationwide. This page is totally dependant on outside input. Also, since there are so many organizations and schedules online already, I've simply linked to many of them.

May 15, 2006
Bethel Historical Society & Rotary

6 PM, White Church, Bethel. Joint meeting of the Bethel Historical Society and Bethel Rotary. After dinner, ($10 pp), catered by Maybelle Dumont, we will enjoy a presentation by Janet Hayward Burnham. She will tell us about Charles Fairbanks, 16 year old Civil War Sharpshooter...a Bethel boy, based on Charlie's Civil War memoir, written in 1899. His recounting is an excellent introduction to what it was like to be a teenage Union sharpshooter...seeing Washington for the first time with its unfinished Capitol dome, its unpaved hog-wallow streets, being in battle, being captured at Gettysburg, watching Pickett's Charge from the Rebel side, walking 200 miles barefoot, being dirty and hungry and sick, almost dying from starvation in prison, and finally being in Appomattox Court House when the peace was signed. Copies of Charlie's book will be available for sale.
