James T. Briggs

Rutland Daily Herald, Oct. 28, 1863:

Deaths. BRIGGS - In Fairhaven, Oct. 21st, of chronic diarrhea and congestion of the lungs, Tilly J. Briggs, youngest and last remaining son of Hiram and Susan Briggs, and a member of Co. F., First Vermont Cavalry, in the 23d year of his age.

Not on the battle field,
Where many fall in pride,
But in our own deat home
Our soldier brother died

Though from our stricken band
Another form has gone,
He left our struggling land
With his whole armor on

Rest, darling brother, rest,
Thy work was nobly done,
Now thou art sweetly blest,
With thee the victory's won
