(Sturtevant's Pictorial History, Thirteenth Regiment, Vermont Volunteers, War of 1861-1865)

WILLIAM H. HATHAWAY was one of the boys whose age is set down at 18 but who was probably considerably under that. He was a small, slender light-haired boy. pleasant and patient under hard- ships which he was not able to cope with successfully. He was universally liked by his comrades who tried to favor him as much as possible. He was taken sick and went to general hospital in March. I think that he was one of those who had measles. He lived to come home but died a few months after our discharge. He enlisted from Moretown, his native town, and was a son of Hiram Hathaway.
