Biography
Scipio Lapoint was born in Quebec as Joseph Cyprien Audet dit Lapoint. He was the son of Henri Audet dit Lapoint and Marie Helene Bonin. He immigrated to Vermont in 1853, served briefly in the Civil War, and he was working as a blacksmith in Middlebury by 1870. In 1857, he married Calista Justine St. Jacques, the daughter of Etienne Raymond Cheval dit St. Jacques and Archange Surprenant dite LaFontaine. Scipio and Calista had ten children: Scipio, Jr. born 1858 in East Dorset, Joseph born 1859 in East Dorset, Justine Calista born 1863 in Middlebury, Mary Melvina born 1866 in Middlebury, Henry Raymond born 1868 in Middlebury, Albert Joseph born 1871 in Middlebury, Lucy Ellen born 1875 in Vergennes, Julia born 1879 in Spofford, NH, Willie born 1880 in Spofford, NH, and Grace Mae born 1881 in Spofford, NH.
