Rutland Daily Herald, Nov. 18, 1909:
Robert Morris, one of the few survivors of Company G, 12th Vermont regiment, 69 years of age, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Lehr, No. 56 Forest street, yesterday morning. He had been ill about a week and on Saturday pneumonia set in, causing death.
Mr. Morris was born in Pittsford in 1840. At the time of the Civil war, he enlisted in the 12th regiment and saw nine months service at the front in the years 1862-3. One his return he engaged in farming in Castleton, where he resided 38 years. He came to Rutland eight years ago. Besides his wife, he leaves five daughters and six sons.
The funeral will be held at St. Peter's church Friday morning at 9 o'clock and the burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
