Rutland Daily Herald, Oct. 12, 1917:
Fair Haven - Word was received here Thursday of the death at the soldiers' home in Bennington of John W. Owens of this place, who went there Monday to reside. He was 71 years of age and is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Horace Lowell of this place, Mrs. Otis Bartlett of Putnam, N.Y., and Mrs. Bertha Bishop of Fort Edward, N.Y., also two sons, John E. of West Haven and James of this place. He also leaves one brother, Newton, of Saratoga, N.Y. The body was brought here Thursday and taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Horace Lowell. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
