Rutland Daily Herald, Feb. 7, 1917:
Matthew Slattery died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Catherine Slattery, 69 Forest street, yesterday morning, at the age of 82 years. He was born in Tipperary, Ireland, August 15, 1835, coming to Rutland early in life. He was a member of the Grand Army and was connected with the railroad service for many years. He served Rev. C.J. Boylan on the altar, and was a Sunday school teacher in the old Catholic church on Meadow street. Roberts post G.A.R. will hold services this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the home, and the funeral will be held at 9 a.m. tomorrow in St. Peter's church.
