John A. Sutherland
John A Sutherland was born in Barnet, Vermont to George and Elizabeth Sutherland. Notice that there is a difference in dates between his Vermont birth record 'date of birth' (Dec 6, 1837), and the gravestone 'date of birth' (Dec 7, 1836). This may have been caused by a number transposition error on the birth record.
Representing Barnet, John served four years in the Civil War in Company I, 3rd Vermont Infantry, being mustered out with the rank of sergeant. John's hand was cut off in a planing mill accident in McIndoe Falls, Vermont. He died in Amity, Missouri, on December 23, 1904, leaving a wife (Elizabeth) and son (Ray C).Contributed by John Sutherland, Denver, CO.
