Rutland Daily Herald, May 28, 1884:

James Thompson, familiarly known as "Dr. Thompson", is dead. He was an inmate of the poorhouse at the time of his death, which was caused by a stroke of paralysis. He was well known in Rutland, and until within a few years was seen daily in the street.
