AGED VETERAN DEAD.
Nelson Washburn, 92, of Chittenden Was in Civil War
Rutland, April 12. - Death has taken the last survivor of Azra P. Noyes post, G.A.R., of Chittenden. Nelson Washburn, 92, Civil war veteran, died yesterday at the home of his son, Leon F. Washburn, here.
Mr.Washburn was born at Sand Lake Mountain, N.Y., and enlisted in the First Vermont cavalry in July, 1861, and was discharged at New Orleans, La, Aug. 10, 1865. He served a part of his time at Ship Island in the Gulf of Mexico. He fought at Red River and Baton Rouge, La.
Four generations of the Washburn family served the United States during wars, his great-grandfather having participated in the Mexican war.
Surviving him is his wife, Ida Burdett Washburn, and a son, Cecil R. Washburn of Rutland, besides the son at whose home he died.
