Sylvester O. Alden, aged 79 years, died Friday last week in Wrightsville near Montpelier, after a few months illness since with dropsy. The deceased was born in Middlesex October 2, 1837, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Alden. He lived in that town until about 10 years ago when he went to Wrightsville to live with his son.

Four children survive him. He was a veteran of the Civil war having served nine months in the Second Vermont Regiment, and having been in the heavy fighting during that time but escaping wounds. He was a member of Brooks post, G. A. R.
