Obituary
Pioneer Kansas Is Dean In Atchinson
Atchison, Kans., Mar. 15. (AP) -- Joseph W. Allen, 90, a pioneer business man and president of the Atchinson Savings Bank, died at his home here early today following a two weeks illness.
Coming here shortly after the Civil War in which he fought with the First Vermont Cavalry, Allen became identified with several business ventures. He was one of the organizers of the McPike Drug Company, now of Kansas City, and was interested in the Symms Grocery Company. The Atchison Savings bank is said to be the oldest in the state.
All was a lineal descendant of Ethan Allen who won fame at Fort Ticonderoga during the Revolutionary war.
