Merritt E. Martindale, died at his home 301 Camp street early Saturday evening. He would have been 69 years old next April, and has lived in Meriden for 40 years. He was a well-known painter and worked for George Flynn. Mr. Martindale had not followed his regular occupation through the cold weather, on account of his advancing age. Though he complained of feeling ill the past week, he was able to be about. Saturday evening he retired early and was taken with severe pains around the heart and died within half an hour, the end coming while the sufferer was in a peaceful slumber. Mr. Martindale was a man of friendly nature and of a cheerful temperament. The family have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement. He leaves a widow, Julia Martindale, one son, Adna S. Martindale, one brother, George S. Martindale, one sister, Miss Ida A. Martindale, all of Meriden, also four grandchildren. The funeral will be from his late home at 2:30 this afternoon. Rev. William H. Kidd will officiate, burial in the family plot in Walnut Grove. Mr. Martindale was born in Pownal, Vermont, and during the Civil War served in Co. G, 49th Mass. Regt. He was a member of the Painters’ Union. The bearers will be Roy Martindale, Thomas Martindale, Howard J. Martindale and Arthur C. King. The funeral will be private and friends are requested to omit flowers.
