This presentation Foot Officers sword belonged to Captain John Lyman Yale, Co. K 17th Vt Volunteers.

He was also a Captain in the 13th prior to his service to the end of the war in the 17th.

It is a Collins & Co. made sword, marked Collins & Co. Hartford, Conn 1862.

Presentation reads: 'Presented to Capt. J. L. Yale, by Co. K 17th Vermont Vs. Sept 23d 1864.

There are still traces of gold wash remaining and the leather scabbard is hand tooled. Enjoy!
