Adjutant and Inspector General Reports
1863 Report
The SEVENTH REGIMENT has been stationed at Pensacola and in the vicinity,--a portion of the companies garrisoning Fort Pickens,--during the year. There has been no change in the Field Officers. The regiment, at the close of the last year, was suffering severely from exposure during the unsuccessful attack upon Vicksburgh and afterwards in camp. Two hundred and eighty-five officers and men died previous to December 1, 1862. Since their removal to a more healthy location the regiment has greatly improved in condition, and the men are now more generally healthy than those of any other regiment from this State in the service.
The unjust aspersions, which were sought to be cast upon the regiment by the General then commanding in the Department of the Gulf, were removed by the result of a Court of Inquiry, which was demanded and obtained by the Colonel of the Regiment, and their colors which had been taken from them, were restored. It is now known, that the officers and men, who were on duty, fought as bravely at the battle of Baton Rouge as any troops who were engaged in that action.
The following is the Roster of the Commissioned Officers of the Regiment at the present time.
