Organized at Rutland and mustered in for three months May 9, 1861. Left State for Fortress Monroe, Virginia, May 9, arriving there May 13.
SERVICE.--Camp at Hygea Hotel until May 25. Demonstration on Hampton May 20. Reconnoissance to Hampton May 23. Occupation of Newport News May 27, and duty there until Aug. Advance on Big Bethel Jun. 9. Battle of Big Bethel Jun. 10. Moved to Brattleboro, VT, Aug. 4-7 and mustered out Aug. 15, 1861.
Regiment lost during service: 1 man killed, 1 man died of accident and 4 men died of disease. Total lost: 6.
