                    Dear Mrs. Melandy

Not having eney thing to do
this afternoon, I thought I would
rite you a few lines. I am in
    good helth and enjoy myself
as well as may be expected. It
has ben very warm hear for a few
days past but is cooler to day.
Mrs. Stebing is not very well.
We have ben practicing at target
    shooting with the canons and
    mortars of the Fort. The
Rebels have ben reported to be 6
miles from hear. I would like
to have them come and see what
the Bloody 11th was made of.
The boys are all well as usal.

I supose Elling is to work
for Mr. Melandy. If he is
rite hell get along. I would
   like to hear form Washburn.
I do not think of much more
to rite at this time. Rite all
   the news.
