14th Vermont Infantry
Gardner S. Roberts
Gardner S. Roberts, age 18, of Whitehall, New York, enlisted 9/13/1862, credited to New Haven, and mustered in with Company D, 14th Vermont Infantry, on 10/21/1862. He mustered out with the regiment in Brattleboro on 7/30/1863.
Sometime before 1888, he moved to Illinois, and joined G.A.R. Post 20, Aurora, Illinois, 10/2/1888. He later transferred his membership to Post 386, Naperville, Illinois. In the Post 386 register, the reason for his discharge was "disease of chest." A note in the register gives his death date as 10/29/1917.
The originals of Post 386 records are in the archives of the Naper Settlement, Naperville, Illinois. In addition, there is an active G.A.R. Museum in Aurora, Illinois.
