Vermont Artillery Units

The Green Mountain State contributed five artillery units to the war effort.

The First Vermont Battery Light Artillery, "Hebard's Battery" served mostly in the Department of the Gulf of Mexico.

The Second Vermont Battery Light Artillery, "Chase's Battery," served also in mostly in the Department of the Gulf of Mexico.

The Third Vermont Battery Light Artillery, "Start's Battery," served in the Army of the Potomac.

The First Vermont Company Heavy Artillery was organized in March 1, 1865, from recruits of the Second Vermont Battery Light Artillery.

The Eleventh Vermont Infantry was redesignated as the First Heavy Artillery, Eleventh Vermont Volunteers during its time in the defenses of Washington, but is usually grouped as part of the First Vermont Brigade.
