5th Vermont Infantry

Photographs

Lemister Milan Parks, son of Frederick and Almira Parks, was born in 1835/1836. In 1850, the family was living in Springfield. On 12 October 1861, he enlisted, and mustered in as a private on 19 November 1861, in Company E, 1st Vermont Cavalry. He was promoted to Corporal, then Sergeant on 1 January 1864, and reenlisted on 29 February. He was 1 of 76 Vermont cavalrymen taken prisoner on 29 June 1864 at Stony Creek, Virginia. He was incarcerated in Andersonville prison, Georgia, where he died 30 August 1864. He is buried in Summer Hill Cemetery, Springfield.

The first picture of Parks was contributed by Linda Welch, of Dartmouth College. The second picture, I've lost track of where it came from, but I've had it for a long time.
